Just Ducky!

What a day… what a week!

And what a great ending. We went out to Westerly/Pawcatuck today for the annual Pawcatuck River Duck Race.
To watch thousands (I heard it was 18,000!) rubber ducks drop off the bridge from a CAT front loader into the river and then race down the river was quite fun, especially for my 4 year old. It was raining fairly steadily but that didn’t stop the crowds from coming out. All the profits from the $5 a pop sponsored ducks go to local schools and non-profit organizations. I would have taken pictures, but with the rain, I had to leave the camera behind.

Better than anything it was just a simple day out spent with family not thinking about work or anything else, walking through Westerly and Mystic blowing our duck calls.

Heard at dinner tonight:
J: I like this cod.
Me: Just like the Sea Lions. They like to eat cod also.
J: Yeah! They do!
Mommy: (to a 4 yr old now immitating a sea lion) Are you Ryder?
J: Yes, I’m Ryder — you know — the young one. Mommy you’re Surfer. And Daddy is Cocoa (the BIG bull)
Mommy: Guffawing as she visulizes the enourmous, and slightly stubborn bull at the aquarium.
