One thing that is very nice about Avery Point’s Coastal Studies program… it’s very intimate. My class (technically seniors) is very small, a total of 9 people. The class behind ours is not terribly larger with around 14 or so. One could easily have the entire class comfortably show up and sit around chatting after dinner…in fact last night we did.
All of us are in one of the program’s core required classes which let out at around 4:30pm. I heard a few of the kids talking about pizza as I headed to my office to finish up some work before riding home. Sure enough about 15 minutes after I got home there was a ring at the door and up came 7 of the 9 other people from the class, just having finished eating dinner at Mystic Pizza (only because they didn’t realize Pizzetta would be closed). They stayed and chatted for an hour or so before heading home. Johann thought it was heaven. He got to talk to Gina and Ryan, show eveyone his fish tanks and meet the rest of my classmates, a few of which he and Tammy met for the first time tonight.
It really hit me with them all gathered in our kitchen it really is a very small and intimate school. Fortunately these kids are all really bright and pretty mature all in all. I’m really pretty damn lucky that my family will support me like they are and that I found a good spot like this where the opportunities for learning are so rich and so personal.
