As my friends and family know, this was a rough semester, but not because the load was too heavy – 6 credits of general ed requirements (Archeology and Economics), 5 credits of intensive marine science classes, and calculus. Under normal circumstances this would be a nice load overall, but having kidney stones that resulted in 2 surgeries and a good 6–7 weeks of being seriously impaired (general fog of pain and pain killers) seriously changed the equation. Catching up with all the missed work because of the surgeries was a bit of a bear! It meant no time for diving, very little time for work, and very little family time. Fortunately, I had understanding professors, who worked with me to revise the assignment schedule, and a very supportive family. All of this, of course, came at a crucial moment, since I am applying to grad schools. I’ve been told they expect better performance in the final year of undergraduate classes, definitely not worse. That caused no end of stress, let me tell you. The good news is that the grades are in and all the hard work by everyone paid off.
So to everyone who directly supported the effort (Tammy and Johann, Mom and Dad, and Grandpa) or supported it by understanding that the postings would be a bit sparser this semester (at the Other95% and here) a heartfelt thank you!

Congratulations, to you and your family! (Also, I took Marine Geology too this quarter…not my favorite thing ever, I gotta say.)

So I think you’ll be all right.
