This snowy egret displayed a wide range of behaviors during the 20 minutes or so I watched it hunt, at one point it started strutting across one of the pools. I thought it was just moving across the pool, but twice while strutting this way it with it’s head high, it quickly struck to the side, succeeding once in getting a fish.
This beautiful adult Snowy Egret wearing it breeding plumage was a surprise find.
Our whole family had made the outing to my favorite tidal marshes (caught it as the tide was just beginning to come in I think — really need to start consulting the tidal charts!). We found a few peeps, gulls and a pair of ducks, but most were sorely out of range for good photography. So after an hour of birdwatching (and a few shots anyways) we headed on out to Enders Island to explore the beach for an hour or so. Then back by the tidal marshes for a few shots and finally home.
This fellow flew overhead as he was following one of the inlets right as I passed the inlets overpass and approached the entrance to the Inn of Mystic. Pulling in I was relieved to see him circle back and land just at the base of the underpass.
Oh, by the way. Many of the images from Flick are now “GeoTagged”, basically this is my poor mans GPS unit. It also allows you to see where in Mystic I actually took the pictures that have a “GeoTagged” link at the bottom of the description. I am geotagging the coordinates of the subject usually not the place I stood. If you find this useful let me know… although truth be told I do have two locations that I am compelled not to share. I have arrangements with some local land owners that allow me to get access to their property. Unfortunately each of them has asked me not to reveal the location to others. Oh, well. I can completely understand.
